Ballymena Academy lifted the Danske Bank Subsidiary Shield with a 20-10 win over Down High School at the Kingspan Stadium this afternoon.

There was little between the two sides in the first half with Ballymena out-half Andrew Magrath kicking two penalties to one from Down, as they led 6-3 at the interval.

However, a converted try scored by Angus Kernohan early in the second half finally put some daylight between the sides and another try in the second half from skipper Josh McIlroy, following a lengthy injury delay to a Down player, finally ended the Downpatrick’s side’s stubborn resistance, despite a late try from their full-back Joe Bingham.
