Farry funds Skills and Employment post in the North West
The Liaison Officer will work under the auspices of the One Plan Skills Directorate and will play a crucial role in co-ordinating local and regional activity to ensure maximum benefit from the investment made in skills in Derry.
Dr Farry said: “The Liaison Officer will help to support the One Plan Skills Directorate as it works to raise skill levels in the city. In addition, he or she will also be working to engage individual employers directly with skills and employment issues, helping them to identify, and avail of, opportunities which can assist them in developing their staff. I look forward to seeing the important contribution this post will make to skills development in the North West.

There is a very significant investment being made by both central and local government employers and individuals in skills and my Department invests over £60million per year on skills related matters in the Derry City Council area. This includes support for Magee and North West Regional College, the Careers Service, Steps to Work and other employment and skills initiatives.
“I believe that the appointment of an individual to co-ordinate the good work that is going on will help to maximise the return on that investment for the good of the economic and social future and continued prosperity of the city.”
