Police have launched an investigation after a young male sustained head and facial injuries during an assault in the vicinity of the Church Road, Newtownabbey.

The Times understands the incident took place on Thursday, March 4, between 8pm and 9pm, but details have only been made public by police today (Friday).

A PSNI spokesperson said: "A young male sustained head and facial injuries during an assault in the vicinity of the Church Road, Newtownabbey. This was close to Lidl and may have involved a group of youths.

"We are appealing for anyone with any information, or who may be able to assist police with their enquires to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 1874 of 4/3/21.
