Community award for'˜Whitehead Wombles'
Whitehead Wombles were among prizewinners.
The awards were presented by Mid and East Antrim mayor Councillor Audrey Wales MBE at a ceremony hosted by television presenter Joe Mah0n, of television’s “Lesser Spotted Ulster”.
Joe provided guests with stories from his own experiences in environmental action along the way.

Hide AdThe event took place at The Great Hall in Queens University, Belfast.
Whitehead Wombles took the Mid and East Antrim Litter Heroes Award.
In addition, there was an honorary mention for Islandmagee woman Elena Cully and Trevor Dunlop, from Connect Ministries, Ballymena.
The winner trophy was a bespoke piece made out of recycled materials.

Hide AdCllr. Wales said that the audience heard inspirational tales from volunteers who have instilled pride in their local communities through practical environmental action.
She added: “Twelve awards were presented in total, rewarding work such as litter picks, community involvement and going above and beyond all expectations.”
The innovative ‘Live Here Love Here Community Awards’ were run by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful.
The organisers said that the awards “provide an opportunity for volunteers to be recognised for their enthusiasm and selfless commitment to encouraging pride in our communities through practical environmental action”.
