Pet owners have been advised to be on the alert for poison parsnips on local beaches after the alarm was raised last night (Tuesday).

A dog walker believes that this harmful plant has been washed ashore at Trooperslane in Carrick.

Otherwise known as hemlock or “dead man’s finger”, the plant is highly toxic for animals and humans.

It is thought to have caused the death of dogs previously even if just lifted by an animal.
