'SOMEONE will be killed' - that's the message from Tullywiggan residents who are calling for traffic calming measures following a crash in the early hours of last Thursday (June 26).
A car collided with a fence and gates at around 2:30am, narrowly missing a resident who was bidding farewell to visitors only moments earlier.

And now residents are calling for speed ramps to be provided to curtail speeders who are putting lives a
t risk.

“I had been out leaving a friend to the car and when I went back in, this Nova came around the corner and crashed into the gate. The two of us could have been killed. The last time something like this happened my daughter-in-law and grandchildren were at the gate. This has been happening far too often and we really need speed bumps put in place to stop this,” said the resident.

New gate posts which were installed recently at her home were damaged, as was the adjoining fence.

“I went outside to see if the driver was hurt, then I went back inside and contacted the police,” she said. “Someone is going to be killed and we really need something done soon.”

The PSNI has confirmed it made two arrests and enquiries are continuing.

Inspector Sue Steen from Cookstown PSNI appealed to road users to exercise caution.

“This is a windy stretch of road and it’s a residential area with children living there,” she said.

She added that she encouraged people to report any incidents of dangerous driving to the police.
